Social Villagers Addon

Mods / Mods 26 [1.26]

Villagers in Bedrock usually just stand around trading and making identical humming noises, but this add-on overhauls their AI to make them feel like dynamic NPCs. Heavily inspired by the classic Villager News animations, the pack injects over 120 fully voiced dialogue lines and animated facial expressions into the game. The villagers now actively react to their environment: they complain if you break their beds, panic when hostile mobs get close, gossip with each other, and even mimic your animations if you start sneaking around them. A built-in reputation system means your actions actually matter—trading and helping them out makes them friendlier, while attacking them triggers negative voice lines. It also introduces some genuinely bizarre interactions, like villagers throwing coordinated dance parties around active jukeboxes, or a custom mechanic where you can use shears to snip off a villager's nose and keep it as an item.

Injecting this level of custom entity behavior into your world triggers standard Bedrock modding restrictions. Because you are applying a third-party behavior pack that completely rewrites vanilla mob logic, your Xbox Live achievements will be permanently disabled on that save file. Gamerscore cannot be earned while using this pack. Furthermore, getting the custom AI to function requires manual configuration before you hit play. You must open your world settings and toggle on Experimental Gameplay features, specifically ensuring Beta APIs are active. If you skip these developer toggles, the underlying scripts will fail to initialize—the villagers will revert to their default silent states, the reputation system will remain broken, and the custom item drops will not work.

However, on older budget smartphones and low-end tablets, this add-on is a massive performance hazard. Every single villager is constantly running proximity checks to scan for players, hostile mobs, weather changes, and dropped items, all while triggering custom audio files and particle emotes. If you cram two dozen of these modified NPCs into a tight trading hall, the sheer volume of overlapping entity scripts will instantly overwhelm a mobile processor, causing severe tick lag and thermal throttling. To keep your framerate stable on a handheld device, you have to strictly limit your villager population.
