Chocobos Addon

Mods / Mods 1.21

Chocobos Mod — Golden-feathered friends for plains runs, with armor, commands, and eggs that hatch faster on hay if you set the pen right.

Head to the tall grass at daybreak and listen for the soft clucks over the wind; that’s your cue you’ve hit a flock. Keep wheat seeds on hotbar, ease in slowly, and tame one clean. Once bonded, the bird handles three simple modes—follow tight on your heels, wander a small radius while you work, or sit and hold a post like a living lawn statue. That flexibility is the whole playstyle: bring a companion through early-game chores, park it by the field while you farm, then whistle it back onto the road when you push for the next biome. Plains are perfect for this loop: clear sightlines, easy routes around ponds, and enough grass that feeding and taming never feel like a grind.

Armor is worth crafting the moment you care about a bird. It isn’t just cosmetics; each set adds durability, so skeleton chip and random creeper splash don’t turn a routine trip into a panic retrieval. Dress your lead bird for travel days and keep a lighter kit for the home flock—your pen stays stylish without burning resources on every single bird. For night security, ring the pasture with a two-block fence and light the corners; pathfinding stays honest, and you won’t wake up to a missing partner because something spooked it toward the river. If you’re crossing water mid-journey, snap a lead on and walk the shoreline to keep the line from snagging; cutting diagonals across currents looks faster but tends to end in chaos.

Eggs are where this addon gets quietly addictive. Chocobos may lay on grass, dirt, or hay, and eggs hatch after roughly 20,000–25,000 ticks—call it about 16–21 minutes of real time. Put the egg on a hay block and that timer halves. Build a tiny “incubator” corner with a hay floor, fence it off so nothing kicks the egg, and pace your chores around the countdown. Keep the chunk loaded, top off your hunger, and use the window to process crops or mine the nearby river clay—by the time your inventory is sorted, you’ll hear the pop and meet a hatchling. If you’re tracking multiple eggs, drop a sign with the placement time so you’re not guessing which one is next.

Day-to-day, the bird becomes a little bit of everything—alarm system, travel buddy, and mascot that makes empty plains feel alive. Run follow mode when you’re scouting a village road, switch to sit while you trade so it doesn’t slip into stalls, and flip back to wander when you’re chopping trees near the pen so it stretches its legs without drifting off. Name-tag your favorites so they never despawn, keep a feeder barrel by the gate for quick seeds and spare armor, and you’ll settle into a rhythm that feels like a real ranch. The mod doesn’t overcomplicate anything; it just gives you dependable, great-looking birds that slot straight into survival and make the quiet miles between bases a lot less lonely.
