Better Torches Mod — a vanilla-friendly Bedrock addon that makes every torch type act like a handheld light source, plus auto-slots your torch into offhand so you can keep moving without spamming placements.
Better Torches is built for the most common Minecraft Bedrock pain: you’re in a cave or a messy tunnel and you either stop every five seconds to place torches, or you accept that you can’t see anything. This addon keeps it lightweight and simple by adding dynamic lighting to all four vanilla torch types, so holding a torch actually lights up the area around you. It covers the full set of torches you already know: the normal torch, soul torch, redstone torch, and copper torch. That means you’re not forced into some custom item or weird replacement texture to get the benefit—you just use the torches you already carry in survival.
The quality-of-life feature that really sells the pack is the offhand behavior. When you use a torch, it automatically gets placed into your offhand, letting you carry light without interrupting gameplay. In practice, that means you can keep your main hand free for whatever you’re doing—mining, fighting, breaking blocks, or just moving—while still getting light from the torch you’re holding offhand. It’s the kind of change that makes exploration feel smoother because you’re not constantly swapping items back and forth like you’re doing inventory gymnastics in the dark.
Where Better Torches Mod shines is in the exact situations the description calls out. Mining becomes less annoying because you can see what you’re doing while you dig, especially during quick ore grabs where you don’t want to stop and place a torch every few blocks. Exploring caves feels more fluid because you can push deeper while keeping visibility, then decide later where you actually want permanent light placements. Tight 1-block-high corridors are a perfect use case too, because crawling through those spaces in the dark is usually miserable, and this makes them way more playable without breaking the vanilla vibe. It’s also great when you’re low on torches and you’re trying to stretch your supply—carrying light while moving lets you save placements for spots you actually want to mark, instead of burning torches just so you can see for ten seconds.
Better Torches Mod is basically a clean survival QoL upgrade: dynamic handheld lighting for normal, soul, redstone, and copper torches, plus an automatic offhand placement flow that keeps your gameplay moving. If you spend a lot of time underground or you hate the stop-and-place rhythm of vanilla lighting, this addon makes Minecraft Bedrock exploration feel faster, safer, and way less frustrating while still staying vanilla-friendly.
